Kitchen Hardware DIY

I so love my husband. I have been so tired this week that I barely move when I get home. Not a good thing for my waist line or my house. I need to work on balance in my life. I feel like I say that about every two weeks or so. Then I plunge right back into something new.  I think I have a problem.

We are working so hard on getting our “to do” list done before Thanksgiving.

Hubby came home this week and got busy. First he got the spice rack hung. We live in a house that even my almost 6 foot tall self cannot reach the top shelf on the cabinets. The spices are so high above the stove that I have to get a step ladder out to search.  Boo.  While we were out a while back Hubby found a spice rack at a resale shop still in the box.  Five bucks!  It is perfect for those frequently used spices.  It hangs on the door, but doesn’t get in the way of the shelves.

Cumin, chili powder, garlic salt, season all and red pepper flakes.  What does that say about my cooking?

Next, he got all the knobs on he cabinet doors.  We learned a long time ago to use a template.  They are not that expensive and can be used again and again.  The template puts the knobs in exactly the same spot on each cabinet door.  color in the hole then drill.

Target Kitchen Cabinet knobs

The knobs came from Target and were bought on sale using my Red Card.  Even with all that they were not cheap.  It was about a hundred dollars for the three packages of knobs and the drawer pulls.  Budget blown already.

A must have for anyone putting a knob on anything.

Oil rubbed bronze.

The drawer pulls are a little trickier.  You need a different template and tape.  mark the center top of each drawer with the tape.

Choose the holes that put the pull where you want it then tape over all the holes and only punch in the ones you will use.

Hang the template over the drawer.  Mark and drill.    Install the cabinet pull and screw it in.

Cabinet hardware makes a huge difference in the life of the finish of the cabinets.  In this new house it also helps us old folk remember which side of the cabinet opens.  I never will understand why someone does not put them on.

We are closing in on the second room.  No thanks to me.
